CHANGE IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER...

LITERACY SPONSORS

Sponsors are a tangible reminder that literacy throughout history has always required permission, sanction, assistance, coercion, or, at a minimum, contact with existing trade routes. Sponsors are delivery systems for the economies of literacy, the means by which these forces present themselves to and through individual learners.
— Deborah Brandt

What is a Literacy Sponsors?

A literacy sponsor is a person, organization and/or group that influences and impacts our communities access to print-rich literature; which yields an increased affluence in the reading and writing ability of our youth. Literacy sponsors also affect which books are placed in our locations and what literacy skills are honed through our programming.

What is their Impact?

The impact of literacy sponsors is monumental. They are absolutely the glue to our grassroots efforts. Not only do they affect the current generations' literacy levels by helping us end book deserts, but they also influence generations that have yet to come by establishing a cultural and communal love for reading.

Where Are They?

Our Literacy Sponsors are from the gauntlet of A through Z — from retired school principals, to blue collar community organizers, to local barbers and stylists, to college students. They come from all over to make a widespread impact in the literacy network. They are extremely knowledgable and inspirational; but most of all they are committed to a cause greater than themselves — the youth.

How Do They Sponsor?

Our Sponsors make financial contributions and/or donate culturally relevant children's books that are directly used for ending book deserts at our partnering locations of "The Root."
